Echo Squadrons is the first of three games that take place in the same universe.  

 

The story is simple...  You are the Commander in charge of a powerful Starship Carrier.  Your mission is to move deep into the far reaches to space to explore the source of strange enemy ships. Those enemy ships have repeatedly attacked and destroyed exploration ships sent in search of resources needed to ensure the human race's survival.  

 

You command not only your Carrier which is equipped with powerful weapons such as auto tracking turrets and a railgun but you command Squadrons of Bombers and Fighters.  These squadrons are capable or reaching deep into enemy territory and striking hard to eliminate distant threats.  Your Carrier is also equipped with powerful weapons Platforms that can be used to defend or repair your Carrier.  These Platforms can also be used to harvest resources the can be used to power and upgrade your the resources at your command.  And finally you command Scout ships capable of quickly reaching the far reaches of space to help you plan a course that will lead you safely through hostile territory or help you plan how best to strike with your squadrons.
